Any guidance for changing to a career in higher education?

Stevie Goldey: The most important thing to consider is job marketability. I don't know where you live so I can;t say for certain, but I know for a fact that you will have an extremely hard time trying to find any teaching positions within California. With that said, what would you be interested in teaching? I would strongly suggest that with your marketing experience (and a huge influx of students interested in majoring in business) that you get your Masters in PR or Media/Communications and then simply get your teaching credential. Having a specified major is more marketable than having a degree in Education (which focuses on techniques). You would have to do some research regarding the requirements for credentialing depending on the state you wish to teach in. Many people think that earning you degree online is inferior to a brick and mortar school...the truth is it completely depends on the type of online school. PLEASE do your own research regarding online schools, as! they are highly competitive. You would want to choose a school that is regionally accredited, this guarantees that your degree will transfer anywhere in the US, and is the highest level of accreditation. Choosing a non-profit school will make your whole experience more cheerful, as for-profit schools typically tell you anything you want to hear in order to get their checks. The only real benefit of going to a traditional school is you will likely form relationships that may help you transition into teaching...or that has been my experience....Show more
