Lonnie Jehle: Nothing. They are unconstitutional infringement on states. The government impliedly has no authority to TAX in areas it has no authority to act, so the tax base should remain at the personal and state level and if areas want programs they can provide them. Or NOT. And in any event they would be shaped locally, which is where the actual individuals live.Toast, you must be very young. Public education DID exist, and was MUCH better before the Department of Education was created in the 1970s....Show more
Weldon Totaro: Nothing would be wrong with doing that because they are both useless. Peace
Willis Liburd: Absolutely nothing. Reagan was hell-bent o do it, but too many lib-dem jobs & votes.
Randa Hessell: Nothing is wrong with getting rid of the Department of Education. It infringes on the states anyway and results have steadily fallen since it was created. I think the Department of Transportation still needs to be there but it could p! robably be reduced in size..
Clemmie Burkleo: Because then everyone would be dumb and uneducated AND stuck in traffic.
Mitchell Pickens: If you shift the responsibility for transportation/eduction from the federal government to the local government, do you really think you'll save money or just shift where you pay your taxes?Instead of 1 agency controlling air traffic we'll have 51? This is how you're going to save tax money?
Nannie Kasee: I'm not entirely opposed, but I worry what would happen to our level of education and the quality of our highways. There would be down-time between when the federal government stopped handling these and the states started. And there's no guarantee the states could do it better. If this idea got some legs under it I'd be interested to see how the already cash-strapped states would propose to pay for this.
Shawnna Kusky: Let them take the IRS with them.
Caryl Mclaen: Watch the movie Idiocracy and then think ab! out that question. The answer should and will come to you very! quickly.
Patricia Bolduc: lol you should have made the stipulation that the ppl answering actually know what those departments do. Some of these answers are pretty funny.
Armando Somes: The Department of Education needs to be shut down immediately. But don't confuse public school with education. Have you ever heard of John Taylor Gatto, N.Y. City teacher of the Year 1990? The first time I read his articles I thought "Finally! I have finally found someone who understands what a sham formal education largely is." "School can never deal with really important things. Only education can teach us that quests donât always work, that even worthy lives most often end in tragedy, that money canât prevent this; that failure is a regular part of the human condition; that you will never understand evil; that serious pursuits are almost always lonely; that you canât negotiate love; that money canât buy much that really matters; that happiness is free. A twenty-five-y! ear-old school dropout walked the length of the planet without help, a seventeen-year-old school dropout worked a twenty-six-foot sailboat all by herself around the girdle of the globe. What else does it take to realize the horrifying limitations we have inflicted on our children? School is a liarâs world. Let us be done with it." - John Taylor Gatto Click on the source links and educate yourself....Show more
