Bryant Pillitteri: Figure out what you want to do first. Accounting may pay well, finance may pay well. Neither is very exciting. Do a double major maybe - I did in computers and math. I forgot all my math and the computer stuff is way out of date but I still have my looks.:oD...Show more
Carolynn Testani: Either a finance degree with a lot of accounting or an accounting degree with a lot finance would be excellent. Both of them are exciting fields, the work is varied and offers a lot of opportunities. Accountants work closely with high level people and can specialize in many areas, i.e. taxation, auditing, management consulting, financial planning, mergers and acquisition, forensic accounting, cost accounting, etc. Finance also offers exciting opportunities in financial analysis, investments, mergers and acquisitions, banking, and others. As an accountant you can get a CPA or CMA, both prestigious certifications. Or you can be a CFA or CFP as a finance major. S! tarting pay is somewhat higher for accounting majors, and advancement tends to be rapid. Finance majors get good starting salaries also. Do what you like best. A very important consideration is good grades. Accounting involves somewhat harder course work, so only the best students tend to select it as a major. Have fun and good luck....Show more
Jose Calaycay: I'm in the IT field. I've had more assignments related to accounting functions than I have in finance. I'd go with the accounting minor - If you plan to be a programmer when you graduate, you'll use it more, and be more employable.
