Why do celebrities exist?

Manie Labat: It's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it

Adan Alipio: Well, it's not true that only entertainers are celebrities. Stephen Hawking, for instance, is famous, even a celebrity, but he's a physicist, not a movie star. When millions of people go to a movie, each then knows those faces starring in it. Thus, some professions get one more well-known by a bunch of strangers. As for why people obsess on them, I guess that, unlike most of us, they are known about by people who don't actually know them, hence, they SEEM "more important" in some way.Not everyone is celebrity-obsessed, though....Show more

Coleman Ocegueda: they exist b/c we create them, its as simple as that

Rivka Killmer: I'm with you.

Troy Staton: I personally don't get into celebrities. They are overrated and most of them end up killing themselves due to drugs and drinking and all that nonsense. When you think about it, being a star means getting stalked, picked on, and getting ! involved in drugs. They never really have any true friends or can hold down a normal family. Sure they have money, but what is the point when the rest of their lives are ruined?Of course, this doesn't apply to all celebs, just most of them...Show more

Evelin Turlich: We (the followers) make celebrities who they're. without their followers, they're no longer something. We idolize human beings because of the fact we are creatures who be in a position to comprehend...to discover thought. Idolizing a action picture star does no longer recommend you're no longer living out your guy or woman existence. purely don't be overly-obsessed on a action picture star. it is not incorrect to idolize somebody. some human beings keen artwork at a place like ET because of the fact they're paid to do this and objective audience discover celebs' lives and gossip so unique. that is entertainment. that is in touch in the $$$...Show more

Woodrow Neyman: I agree entirely. Everybody is j! ust a person, but celebrities tend to take on the image or per! sona of a God. Celebrities exist because we as "normal" people choose to make them celebrities. It is us (as well as the media) that contribute to creating a barrier between normal people and "celebrities." We often think as celebrities as being richer, more good looking, happier, and having better taste and more exciting lifestyles than everybody else. "Everybody else", on the other hand, is seen as being the exact opposite, living normal and unexciting stressful lives. These stereotypes widen the gap between "us and them", hence creating the concept of a celebrity. Unfortunately, we rarely choose to unlearn these foolish concepts....Show more

Chastity Doderer: Because people are social animals. They are kind of like sheep - stupid, easy to herd. They are deeply influenced by society's opinions.

Arnulfo Seegars: Because we're all really nosy and like to see famous people doing regular things? They are unattainable? I'm not really sure.....but look back when ! the Beatles were huge. Girls would cry and pass out in their presence.

Hugo Pittari: This is a great question. I believe like many animals like monkeys, wolves and chickens humans beings are hierarchical by nature. Whether we like it or not, to a certain degree we rank people in our societies according to a huge variety of different criteria. Generally its based on criteria that will help the society survive or make them happy. Strong hunters or leaders get ranked above mediocre ones. Celebrities tend to be good looking, interesting, or talented; traits that most people find pleasurable and stimulating. What may be confusing you is your premise that "Everyone is a regular person". Yes we are all flesh and bone, but all flesh and bone is not equal most people would agree that celebrities are better looking than the average person. Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder which is why there are a variety of celebrities to choose from. I may not think Angelia Joli! e is hot, but many other people do and in general most people agree she! is better than average looking. Also she is considered to be very talented and she is in the movie business a medium that makes her recognizable to millions of people around the world. An individual's profession is critical to determining one "celebrity status". Professions that a lot of people find interesting and attract the attention of millions of people determine one's "celebrity status". This is of course different from city to city, region to region, country to country depending on the taste of the population. In most of the world soccer stars are celebrities, but most Americans could care less about who plays soccer, just as most people outside of America don't know anything about Jerry Rice or Joe Montana. People all around the world enjoy watching movies which is why movie stars are usually the most popular of all celebrities and the American movie industry is the biggest in the world which is why American movie stars tend to be the most popular of all movi! e stars....Show more

Ty Kirton: Because the professions they have are in the entertainment industry, which makes tons of people know them, making them famous. A celebrity is just a person who is VERY well known.

Leora Klingelhoets: i unno.. sometimes there's people who are celebrity's who aren't in entertainment. like mother theresa could be considered a celebrity.. at least famous.. jesus.. if he existed.. and don king

Georgia Dees: because they are the stars that haven't fall from the sky.

Doreatha Kjellsen: Because they go out of their way to excell in a craft, and when people excel, we give them credit, just as you would like approval for doing good, celebrities excell higher, and are noticed more, because they do a lot of things that people like you and others can't or won't do, and they deserve the attention. Lots of people Need attention, and lots of people don't like attention. Celebrities obviously like it, and they feel they have given ! a contribution to others through their work, and they do deserve the pr! aise....Show more

Claude Gloden: Celebrities are people that are richer than most people and they are picked to become singers or actors because of their talent. Some celebrities really are talented, but others are not at all. People are just obsessed these days and this world is wrapped up around them. People no longer think for themselves You're right; we are all just regular people. Celebrities are not that good looking either. I've seen them without make-up, and they look worse than half the people I've encountered. The make-up applied to them isapplied by professionals that have studied years of make-up. People just want to become more like celebrities because they think that since they get all the fame and praise, then they may get it as well. But I agree that it's superficial. ...Show more

Romana Stiman: Because they pay their publicists to inform the paparazzi of where they will be going out for dinner tonight.
