global warming question?

Heidy Fujikake: Global warming is caused by us. I am a firm believer of this and people should be taking this more seriously. Their have been proven facts about what is happening to our earth and they are not predictions. It is already happening.Consider the weather changes within the past few years. The mild winters, iceburgs melting, etc. I don't see how anyone can deny this or be blind to this when the obvious is there. If a single household took all of their garbage and piled it in their backyard for five years, do you think it would be tolerable? Could they stand to even go in their back yard? We're putting garbage into huge dumpsites, chemicals, plastics, things that could easily be recycled. Many attitudes are that of, "Just throw it away, let someone else deal with it." I could go on and on.Yes, we are the cause and if anyone thinks different, they are in denial because they simply do not want to take the time to change and do anything about it....Show more!

Dick Maisenbacher: true that........however, how do you explain the fact that the measurable levels going back thousands of years have no where near the levels now measured by cutting open in sections the glaciers and ice shelfs still left..................look at the ozone layer which science says is attributible to human caused pollution. This in turns helps melt the polar cap; raising the ocean level and temperature causing fertile beginnings of hurricanes and tropical storms never before seen. and measured....Show more

Ewa Homrich: Because we people release so much CO2 .

Frances Macky: There are many of reasons that the earth warms and cools. The last ice age ended when more solar insulation started hitting the earth or in other words more of the suns rays hitting the surface of the planet. The earth as it moves around the sun has many cycles of precession and eccentricity that last thousands of years to tens of thousands of years. These cycles cha! nge the insulation and keep the earth going into and out of ic! e ages and warming periods. The problem is we are not in any cycle that would normally cause the climate to change so there it has to be another reason for the earth's climate to warm. As the amount of CO2 increases, so does the climate, the problem, without a doubt is carbon dioxide.Don't be fooled by the ignorance of uninformed people telling that there are only natural cycles that affect the climate, because natural cycles are not the only reason for climate change....Show more

Ignacio Imbier: Global warming and climate change has occurred in the past, yes. But archaeological evidence shows these changes to be slow over several centuries except in the case of an asteroid hitting the Earth. The climate change we are talking about now is happening rapidly, too rapid to be natural. Man and his greed are ruining this planet and those who disagree don't want to give up their planet destroying ways and so they say it is all hogwash. They have their heads in the sand, t! he problem will not go away it will only get worse. It might be OK for us right now but what about your grandchildren or their grandchildren? The hole in the ozone layer keeps getting bigger and bigger over America and Australia, two countries that refuse to sign the KYOTO Agreement, what does that tell you? Capitalism is killing our planet....Show more

Morris Cuomo: In NY Times this morning:http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/10/science/10climat... Agency Affirms Human Influence on Climate By ANDREW C. REVKINPublished: January 10, 2007President Bush has said it. A lot of government scientists have said it.But until yesterday, it appeared that no news release on annual climate trends out of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration under the Bush White House had said unequivocally that a buildup of greenhouse gases was helping warm the climate. The statement came in a release that said 2006 was the warmest year for the 48 contiguous states since regular temperatu! re records began in 1895. It surpassed the previous champion, 1998, a y! ear heated up by a powerful episode of the periodic warming of the tropical Pacific Ocean by El Niño. Last year, another El Niño developed, but this time a long-term warming trend from human activities was said to be involved as well. “A contributing factor to the unusually warm temperatures throughout 2006 also is the long-term warming trend, which has been linked to increases in greenhouse gases,” the release said, emphasizing that the relative contributions of El Niño and the human influence were not known.A link between greenhouse gases and climate change was also made in a December news conference by Dirk Kempthorne, the secretary of the interior, as that agency proposed listing polar bears as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. Still, the climate agency’s shift in language came as a surprise to several public affairs officials there. They said they had become accustomed in recent years to having any mention of a link between climate trends and human ! activities played down or trimmed when drafts of documents went to the Commerce Department and the White House for approval. James L. Connaughton, chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality, said the release reflected longstanding views within the administration. “It’s helpful for them to describe what is a question in many people’s minds â€" what is the human factor, what is the El Niño factor,” Mr. Connaughton said of the NOAA release. “From our perspective, what was in the press release was a direct reflection of what the president and folks in his administration have been saying for some time.” Mr. Bush has made two speeches on climate. He first expressly accepted that humans were contributing to global warming in a news conference in Denmark in July 2005 on the way to an economic summit in Scotland, saying, “Listen, I recognize that the surface of the Earth is warmer and that an increase in greenhouse gases caused by humans is contribut! ing to the problem.”But the government’s scientific bureaucracy, wh! ere public affairs officials and scientists as recently as last year complained that findings pointing to climate dangers were being suppressed, has taken time to catch up. “There’s been some sensitivity to the fact that some people have complained that NOAA and other parts of the government haven’t been as open as they would like them to have been on this,” said Jay Lawrimore, a climatologist at the National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C., where the temperature trends are compiled. “Now NOAA is making an effort to be clearer on some of the influences.”Mr. Lawrimore said there was no way to account for the trends, be they the melting of Arctic sea ice or the warming of winters, without including an influence from heat-trapping gases. “Year after year as we continue to see warmer temperatures,” he said, “there are more and more converts convinced that it’s not just natural variability and not just something that’s going to return back to temper! atures we saw 40 or 50 years ago â€" that in fact we are doing something to the climate.”...Show more

Theresia Fashaw: its not the same..it cant be logically and we can only speculate about the past.

Fred Caminita: Don't fall for all the global warming doom and gloom stories. Man has been predicting environmental doom for decades. Remember Erlich's Population Bomb. The world was supposed to be plunged into worldwide famine back in the 80's. Billions were supposed to die off because the planet could not sustain us. Did it happen? Al Gore claims to be an expert but never presents factual scientific evidence to support his claims. No less than 4 times in the past century has the media sounded the alarm about climate change. First it was global cooling, then global warming, then cooling again, now warming again. Do you sense a pattern here? We go through cooling and warming cycles, and the media jumps on it and tries to scare the hell out of us. The global temper! ature has been cooling since 1998. In about 10-15 more years, the alarm! ist media will notice that we are going through another cooling cycle, and sound the alarm again about global cooling. Also realize that some 'greenies' want to limit the use of fuels to inhibit 'green house gases' - this means that coal and petroleum will not be allowed. Yet they don't propose any alternatives. Nearly all the electrical energy produced in this country is generated by coal and fossil fuels. The current plans of the extreme environmentalist will destroy the economy and liveable conditions in this country. Yet, there is no attempt to make China and India reduce carbon emissions, just the current industrialized nations, especially the USA. China and India are two of the greatest polluters. Is the climate changing, yes, do we know why? Probably not, because ever time a true scientist presents research that the greenies disagree with or it doesn't fit their agenda, attempts are made to discredit the scientist and his research....Show more

Rodrigo Pezley: ins! ane.

Shon Almquist: There is a simple truth which the "experts" (nothing of the sort) tend to overlook about "global warming."If the earth is warm, the place becomes a veritable garden, and more people can be sustained. If the earth cools rapidly, the garden retreats to the more temperate climates, and a vast number of people will die. The last ice-age is proof enough of this. There was a time when the UK had a tropical climate, and other times when it was half-covered by ice a mile deep.....that was entirely normal and natural.Scientists, and especially politicians, like people to think that they can change the world, yet the forces of nature are absolutely beyond comprehension. Lots of people rushing around with a big 'S' on their chests will probably make no differnece whatsoever.I would suggest that instead of concentrating on motor-vehicles, and the mere 2% of CO2 emissions they represent, the "greens" would be far better employed worrying about chemical pollution! and plastic waste, which are blighting both land and oceans on an unpr! ecedented scale. Things like methane production are far more worrying than CO2 emissions from motor-vehicles.The problem we face, is that of realtively dim people assuming the role of world protectors, when the planet is probably quite capable of self-regulation without human intervention. As for global-warming accelerating faster than every before, the records don't go back that far, so no-one can knowfor sure. The fact that we now pollute less than we did a century ago, suggests that global-warming is not particuarly related to greenhouse gas emissions, but of course, every bit of CO2 aids the process.Of course, the biologists would possibly tell us that a warmer planet means a more dangerous planet, because the increase in populations which result, and the fact that people travel more, increases greatly the chances of a global pandemic of disease.Could THAT be the best solution, based on the concept of a "self-regulating planet?"Make no mistake, the planet has some nasty ! tricks up its little sleeve, but you can choose to be afraid or not as the case may be, whatever the soothsayers say. None of us live very long!...Show more

Beau Starcevic: A volcanic eruption or a meteorite can produce the same effect.Without forgetting the periodic variations in Sun's radiation.

Rubye Bonnin: because global warming does not exist, it is just part of a natural cycle

Adrian Paraz: Global warming is not caused by CO2 , it is a natural cycle that will continue until our planet no longer exists
